Marble and Granite provide some of the most exquisite and elegant floors available in the marketplace today. Nothing beats that highly reflective mirror like finish available on Hard Marble and Granite floors. Although some manufacturers have duplicated that mirror finish, they still can't capture the unique look of a natural stone material.

There are important things to consider when you install a Marble or Granite floor, however. For example, have you ever looked at a beautiful, highly reflective Marble or Granite floor only to perceive that something is not right? You can't quite put your finger on it and the floor looks beautiful, but you have this nagging feeling that something is not right. Look down at the reflection— that's what's not right. The mirror image is not quite a mirrored image. In fact in some highly reflective floors that I have seen the reflective image isn't even close to the original. I have included some pictures from the local mall to show how the reflective image does not mirror the image.

Notice the poor reflection quality of this marble. Part of the installation reflects the trash can well, but the section to the right of that area is very disjointed and does not reflect the storefront well at all.

On other hand, notice how this marble reflects the window and furniture accurately, even the branches of the tree visible through the window. This is well-installed marble designed to bring out the beauty of this material.

In a properly installed highly reflective Marble or Granite floor, the reflected image should match the original image with only slight variation. In other words, if there is a sign on the wall or storefront, you should be able to read it in the floor just as you can read it on the wall or in the storefront. You should be able to see your beautiful furniture the same way. Only when this is accomplished do you truly have an elegant and beautiful floor.

Some Marble and Granite installers concentrate all their efforts on eliminating lippage (lippage is the difference in height between pieces of Marble or Granite). While this is an important consideration, you have to keep in mind that most Marble floors must be resurfaced in the first ten years. This first resurfacing eliminates any lippage, but will leave the beautiful mirror image originally installed.

Most Marble and Granite floors installers who concentrates on the reflection also eliminate 90% of the lippage, and whatever lippage that wasn't eliminated is usually minimal. If your floor wasn't installed with proper attention paid to the reflection, all the resurfacing in the world may never provide you with that beautifully reflective mirror image you had hoped for when you bought this flooring material.

We focus our attention on both reflection and lippage. It is expensive, but it is worth it, especially if you are particular about details and want things done right.
